Exploring the Sunshine Coast’s Art Trail

One of the many excellent attractions on the Sunshine Coast is its flourishing art scene with literally hundreds of art studios, galleries and exhibitions. It’s definitely worth taking a day out from the beach and exploring the Sunshine Coast’s Art Trail.

In particular the Sunshine Coast hinterland region has an extraordinary reputation for fine art. There are a wealth of exceptional artists with artworks that include oil and water-colour paintings, and extend into bronze, sandstone and marble sculptures; porcelain and hand-blown glass; silk and textiles; jewellery, wood,  photography and much more.

From the hinterland hidden treasure towns of Maleny and Montville, to the beachside town of Caloundra and up the coast to Buderim, Eumundi and Noosa, there is plenty of artwork to be appreciated by the discerning art lover.

Here a suggested day trip itinerary for exploring the Sunshine Coast Art Trail:

Caloundra – Head south to the this top family holiday beachside holiday town and check out Caloundra Regional Gallery, with ever-changing exhibition from local and international artists.
Glenview –  Drive west towards the Bruce Highway and check out Opals Down Under at Glenview with an amazing range of Australian opals and opal jewellery.
Maleny
Continue on the Landsborough-Maleny Road to Art on Cairncross, located at Cairncross Corner east of Maleny. The gallery continues to be visited by art lovers from all over Australia and the world because of the calibre of fine art displayed including ceramics, glass and sculpture.

In Maleny itself there are several art galleries, including Ben Messina Landscapes, Peace of Green Gallery, Gary Myer’s Gallery and David Linton Gallery.
Montville
A short driving distance away is the hinterland village of Montville, the Sunshine Coast’s largest concentration of art galleries, all within walking distance of each other. Check out Secrets on The Lake, Illume Creations, Montville Art Gallery and Main Street Gallery.
Buderim
To complete the loop, return eastwards towards the coast and stop off at Buderim, where there is Art Nuvo, a sleek gallery that’s home to a carefully curated collection of local, original artworks. Batik, ceramics and sculpture sit alongside paintings.

If you haven’t had your fill of fine art then head north towards the arty town of Eumundi and of course Noosa, where you find more galleries and art studios. You can download a Sunshine Coast Arts Trail Map HERE
